Booking & payments
How does booking work?
Search for available, verified sitters near you, filter by service, date and price, then send a booking request or book instantly where it's offered. Once the sitter accepts and you pay in-app, the booking is confirmed and you'll find all the details in your Pawport.
When am I charged?
Your payment method is charged when a booking is confirmed. The funds are held securely in escrow and are only released to your sitter after the service is completed - so your money is protected the whole time.
How does pricing work?
Sitters set their own rates. Pet owners pay a small, capped booking fee, with GST/HST applied to that fee. You always see the full all-in total, the service, fee and tax, before you confirm. Nothing is hidden.
How do refunds and cancellations work?
Because funds are held in escrow until the service is done, most cancellations are clean and refunds go back to your original payment method. The exact refund depends on the sitter's cancellation tier and how far ahead you cancel. Read the full Cancellation & Refund Policy.
Can I set up recurring bookings?
Yes. Once you've found a sitter you love, you can set up a recurring schedule - for example a weekday morning walk - and rebook in a tap. You can pause, edit or cancel an upcoming occurrence anytime, subject to the cancellation policy for that visit.
Can I tip my sitter?
Absolutely. You can add a tip when you review a completed booking. Sitters keep 100% of every tip - PetWalk never takes a cut of tips.
Trust & safety
How are sitters vetted?
Every sitter completes identity verification and a criminal-record / background check through a third-party vendor before they can accept a booking. We also review profiles and rely on owner reviews to keep standards high across the community.
Are walks GPS-tracked?
Yes. During an active walk you can follow the route live on a map, and the GPS trail is saved to your Pawport along with check-in/check-out times, photos and notes. Location is only collected during an active walk - never in the background between bookings.
Is my pet's and my data safe?
We're committed to PIPEDA-compliant privacy practices. We collect only what we need, payments are handled by Stripe, and location is captured solely during active walks. For the full picture, read our Privacy Policy.
What is PetWalk Protected?
PetWalk Protected is a protection program included free on every booking made and paid in-app. It can help with eligible vet costs and property damage a sitter is liable for, as a backstop when the responsible party can't or won't pay. It is not insurance and is subject to eligibility rules, deadlines and limits - see the PetWalk Protected page.

How do I become a sitter?
Create a sitter profile, pass identity verification and a background check, set your services, rates and schedule, and you're ready to accept bookings. There's no sign-up fee. Get started on the Become a sitter page.
What's my cut as a sitter?
Sitters keep the large majority of their rate, and even more once you reach PetWalk Pro. You also keep 100% of every tip. You set your own rates and choose which jobs to accept, so you're an independent contractor, not an employee.
How and when do sitters get paid?
Payment is held in escrow when an owner books and is released to you after the service is marked complete. Payouts are processed to your linked account on a weekly cycle via our payments provider, Stripe.

How do I manage recurring bookings?
Open the booking in your Pawport to edit the schedule, skip an occurrence, or cancel the series. Changes to an upcoming visit follow that visit's cancellation policy.
How do I access or delete my data?
You can request a copy of your personal information or ask us to delete it, subject to legal retention requirements. Contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@petwalk.ca - details are in the Privacy Policy.
PetWalk Protected
What does PetWalk Protected cover?
It can help with eligible vet costs if a pet is injured during a covered booking and with property damage a sitter is liable for, when the responsible party can't or won't pay. Coverage limits, a minimum contribution and exclusions apply - full details are on the PetWalk Protected page.
How do I file a PetWalk Protected claim?
Email claims@petwalk.ca as soon as possible with your booking details and supporting documents (such as itemized vet records). Claims have deadlines, so don't wait. Only bookings made and paid in-app are eligible.
Cancellations
What are the cancellation policy tiers?
Sitters choose one of three tiers - flexible, moderate or strict - and the policy that applies is always shown at checkout before you pay. Each tier has different refund windows for short services (walks, drop-ins, daycare) and long services (boarding, house-sitting). See the Cancellation & Refund Policy.
What happens if a sitter cancels or no-one shows up?
If a sitter cancels, you get a 100% refund and we'll help you rematch with another sitter. No-shows are taken seriously and may result in a refund and account review. Reach out to support right away if a sitter doesn't arrive.
